Brookville Area Schools to Support Walk to School Day and Bullying Prevention Month on October 2, 2019
Brookville Area School District will join schools nationwide to increase awareness of the need to promote healthy living and stop bullying among our nation’s young people. The walk to school event is being held in conjunction with International Walk to School Day and National Bullying Prevention Month both of which occur during October.
Hickory Grove Elementary students and Northside
kindergarten students will be walking to school and wearing orange on
Wednesday, October 2. They will be
joined by parents, teachers, and community members on their walk to Hickory
Grove Elementary School and Northside Elementary School.
The starting point for this year’s walk will be the Brookville YMCA. Hickory Grove participants are asked to arrive by 7:30 AM. Hickory Grove walkers will depart from the YMCA at 7:45 AM. Northside kindergarten participants are asked to arrive by 7:55 AM. They will depart at 8:10 AM to walk to Northside. Teachers from Hickory Grove and Northside will be leading the walk and will be stationed at various places along the route. The RMA Library and the United Methodist Church are the other stations where teachers will lead students to Hickory Grove or Northside.
Parents and community members are encouraged to walk with students, wear orange, display signs, and cheer on students from the 7:30 to 8:30 time period.
The event is being organized by Brookville Area Education Association, Brookville Area School District, Brookville YMCA, and the RMA Library. The Brookville police and fire departments will also provide protection for the walkers.
