Fourth Graders "Adopt a Pet"
To promote reading for fun, over 80 fourth grade students have adopted a pet. Thanks to an anonymous friend, the kids had to choose from over a 100 beanie baby animals. They went through the process with Mrs. Afton, receiving an adoption certificate and pet of their choice. The students are responsible for caring for their pets by 'feeding them with reading'. Each student is encouraged to read to their pet for 20 minutes a night. They have record sheets to help keep track of their time spend with their adoptive pet. Students will have an opportunity to earn items (collars, leashes, bows, name tags) for their pet. We will be keeping track of how well the pets are taken care of in fourth grade. Fourth graders now have an adopted pet to share their love of reading.
