School Lunch Hero Day
Friday, May 5, is National School Lunch Hero Day. Our Lunch Heroes prepare healthy meals, adhere to strict nutrition standards, navigate student food allergies, and offer service with a smile.
The
BASD Food Service Department is a small but mighty crew. With a staff of 14
shared among 4 locations, our ladies really do have food-savvy superpowers. This
year alone they are on track to serve 150,000 breakfasts and 240,000 lunches to
our district students and Head Start programs. Their grocery list is extensive
and includes several tons of fresh fruits and vegetables and well over a
quarter of a million half-pints of milk! Students enjoy traditional fare that
includes 60,000 slices of pizza and 25,000 peanut butter jelly sandwiches.
Approximately 15 tons of ground beef, chicken, and cheese round out the main
grocery items needed to prepare the district’s students’ favorite meals.

Please take time to thank our dedicated ladies who not only know their way around the kitchen but who know and love every one of our Brookville students!
